What is a Heat Recovery Ventilation System?
To put it simply a heat recovery ventilation system does exactly what the name implies, it recovers heat while simultaneously ventilating. It does this by pushing fresh air in to the air conditioning system and removing stale air out of the house or building. The unit is pulling air in from outside in a separate duct so that the air circulating through the house is clean and not contaminated with dirt and contaminants. This type of unit is very efficient and can save money on energy costs as well as lower your carbon footprint.
While these systems aren’t popular yet in Australia, they soon will be. Older homes aren’t as well sealed, in turn, are less energy efficient but allow minimal fresh air into the home. As homes are continually improving to ensure there’s no cracks or holes to allow heat to escape, we now create an issue where no fresh air can enter the building continually.
This can cause a build-up of stale air and in older homes, you may be continually inviting unwanted particles like mould and dust.
Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems by Stiebel Eltron
At DP Heating and cooling, for all heat recovery ventilation systems we use Stiebel Eltron. Stiebel Eltron systems can recover up to 94% of the energy that is normally lost through your windows and return it back to your heating system. For example, their LWZ 180 / LWZ 280 can recover up to 94% of heat and reduce condensation present in the home, which will help stop mould growth.
They offer a few different systems based on your needs, whether you want to have your ventilation system ducted or wall-mounted, from apartments to large businesses.
There is a heat recovery ventilation system suited for you and your needs.
Installation of a Heat Recovery Ventilation System
Installing one of these systems would be best done when building a new home as it gives the installer and you a wider range of options to go through. In already established buildings, your option of systems may be reduced but still well worth the investment as they are essentially an air purifier for your whole home. The best part about these units is how much energy they save and they require minimal maintenance once installed, just either replace or clean the filters as you would with your air conditioner.
